Dr. Scott Leydig
Dr. Scott Leydig is a sport psychologist that works with athletes, dancers, and performers in all levels of expertise. As a former competitive athlete, Dr. Leydig paired his love for athletics and his desire to help others and pursued a master’s and doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University (NSU). While at NSU, he served at NSU’s Sports Medicine Clinic working with elite athletes in the South Florida community including collegiate student-athletes and professional athletes. During his graduate training at NSU, Dr. Leydig earned the position of head coach of the lacrosse team at Archbishop McCarthy High School. After four seasons coaching lacrosse, he was privileged to coach football and basketball in the Special Olympics of Florida. Dr. Leydig completed his residency at the University of South Carolina’s Counseling and Human Development Center and helped students cope with the adjustments and stressors of a collegiate environment. Prior to his graduate training, he earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and graduated Cum Laude.
As a south Florida native, Dr. Leydig decided to open his private practice in his hometown of Plantation, FL where he works with athletes of all levels of competition from professionals, collegiate athletes, to weekend warriors. As a sport psychologist, Dr. Leydig enjoys helping athletes and dancers develop an elite mindset and achieve optimal performance. In addition to sport psychology services, he also provides clinical psychology services to treat conditions such as depression, anxiety, and eating disorders.
Dr. Leydig is honored to be a sport psychology consultant for Miami City Ballet where he helps dancers perform to the best of their abilities and cope with the specific challenges faced in the dance community. As a featured speaker on The Dance Docs Podcast with Dr. Kat Bower and Dr. Kathleen Davenport, Dr. Leydig is able to reach a broader audience of dancers to help enhance their mental and physical capabilities in and outside of the dance studio.
Being born and raised in South Florida has allowed Dr. Leydig to appreciate the diversity of South Florida and prides himself on being able to connect with people from varying cultures and ethnic backgrounds. Dr. Leydig recognizes the hardships and marginalization faced by people of color and minority groups which has led him to promote a multicultural, social justice, and equality approach to his practice.
Outside of the office, Dr. Leydig is active in the sports community and enjoys playing basketball, football, hockey, tennis, and spikeball. He takes pride in raising his 3 children and always utilizes a “family first” mentality to his work/life balance.
